Baby Acne Treatment
Finding the best baby acne treatment is not very involved, although it looks unpleasant it is not a critical condition and the treatment is really easy. This type of acne is sometimes misinterpreted as acne and pimples in teenagers and adults, but it is not the same type of acne at all.
Baby acne, known as neonatal acne, is commonly seen on your newborn when they are but a couple of weeks old and can exist on the chest, face, behind the ears or on the baby's scalp. Around 20% of newborn babies are affected by this condition. Acne on newborns is caused by maternal hormones developed during pregnancy. These hormones tend to over-stimulate the sebaceous glands of a baby making acne materialize. This condition usually affects babies three to four weeks after birth and could also be baby's skin reacting to irritants, such as detergent left behind in clothing or bedding. It is not caused as many seem to believe by breast milk.
Commonly baby acne is not critical enough to demand medical care or medication. The best baby acne treatment is mostly gently washing with a soft baby soap, avoiding any rough cleansing and lightly patting dry with a soft towel. Sooner or later the baby acne will clear given time. There is no need to apply creams or lotions, although this is something done by many parents it may actually make the symptoms worse. Never squeeze or pop any of the the pimples as this will leave long term scarring.
If the acne looks especially severe you should see a doctor or pediatrician, your nurse or health visitor will also help and advise.
